A review of Microsoft's Surface Book in October 2015 revealed a number of problems. These weird issues included Bluescreens and driver crashes that happened frequently, and failure of the docking app for the display.
Tech giant, Microsoft, assured customers that some of the problems would be fixed before they began buying the devices, but this did not come to fruition. As a result, many Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 owners have been airing their complaints in the recent past.
Among the users who raised issues is Paul Thurrott, who labeled the problems as Microsoft's "Surfacegate" in January 2015. In an attempt to have the problems fixed, Surface owners have turned to Microsoft's support forum. The software developer has now been compelled to respond.
On Feb. 18, Thursday, Microsoft rolled out new firmware updates for the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book, which are meant to fix power management issues and Intel driver problems. While the company does not indicated whether the updates address all the complaints raised by customers, Surface boss Panos Panay asserts he has been reading blogs, social media, comments, and forums to take in all the feedback.
Speaking via Windows blogs, Panay said, "We are committed to continuing to improve Surface. And to continue to help all our customers realize the full benefits of the latest silicon and Windows 10."
The latest silicon, Intel's Skylake processor, has been particularly troublesome. Sources at Microsoft Corporation said that the company has been facing difficulties with the power management of the Intel's new Skylake processors.
However, Microsoft is not the only company facing the issue. Dell has experienced similar issues with Intel's new Skylake processors, and it has been compelled to release several BIOS updates to address early glitches with power management.
Microsoft have handled some problems, and it will continue pushing for patches through Windows Update. Amid the feedback and problems, Panay is still optimistic about Surface, saying, "We are pumped that many of you love your Surfaces. Keep the feedback coming."
