The female contestants who made it to the "American Idol 2016" top 24 were La'Porsha Renae, Jenna Renae, Avalon Young, Stephany Negrete, Gianna Isabella, Sonika Vaid, Jeneve Rose Mitchell, Emily Brooke, Shelbie Z, Amelia Eisenhauer, Jenn Blosil, Tristan McIntosh and Olivia Rox. Their male counterparts are Thomas Stringfellow, Mackenzie Bourg, James VIII, Jordan Sasser, Manny Torres, Kory Wheeler, C.J. Johnson, Trent Harmon, Lee Jean, Adam Lasher and Dalton Rapattoni.

Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick Jr. did not exactly agree with me because Negrete, Lasher, Shelbie Z and Wheeler did not make it to the top 14. Instead, the judges allowed Stringfellow, Mitchell, McIntosh and Harmon to proceed to the next round.

During the duets round, the 24 semi-finalists performed with previous winners and runners-up. They are Ruben Studdard from Season 2, Fantasia Barrino from Season 3, Constantine Maroulis from Season 4, Chris Daughtry and Kellie Pickler from Season 5, Jordin Sparks from Season 6, David Cook from Season 7, Lauren Alaina, Haley Reinhart and Scotty McCreery from Season 10, Caleb Johnson from Season 13 and Nick Fradiani from Season 14.
