In the new survey for the best places to live in America, Denver placed first in the ranking. The municipality which has been dubbed as the "Mile-High City" is also the most populous city in the U.S. state of Colorado.

According to the U.S. News & World Report, they assessed 100 cities with the most populations in order to find which state is the best to live in. To rank high and be included in the top 10, rankings and analysis look into each state's job market, cost of living, access to good schools and quality of life.

Moreover, the metros considered were the biggest regions across the U.S. They were rated according to the data collected, and in addition to the mentioned basis, the number of people moving in the area was also counted.

Aside from the government data, the search for the best places to live in for 2016 was determined through public survey, where thousands of people in various states participated. The individuals were asked to write about how they feel living in their own hometown. The publication also factored the participants' idea of what makes a place desirable to live in.

Likewise, commenting on how they ascertain the best cities, U.S. News & World Report chief content officer Brian Kelly explained to CBS, "It epitomizes quality of life for a lot of people. The commuting issue that you have in many of the big cities isn't so much there, you've got the natural beauty, you've got sort of progressive politics -- it's a combination of things that sort of work very well."

Lastly, Miriam Weiner, product manager for Real Estate department of U.S. News relayed that the other things that a place must have to make it to the top list are low crime rates and good quality health care.
