"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 recently saw Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) making another selfish decision for his own sake.

In "I Would For You," Damon told Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Bonnie (Kat Graham) that he would rather just go into a deep slumber than deal with all of the problems he's faced with.

Just recently, he turned Elena Gilbert (Nina Dobrev) into dust, and his conscience has not left him in peace.

However, Stefan urged Damon to not go for an easy way out just because things are difficult.

Damon's younger brother also reminded the former that bad things can happen to him if Damon is no longer there to protect him.

Additionally, Damon's best friend Bonnie told him that she will be extremely mad at him if he decides to leave her behind, according to TV Line.

"I am not okay with this decision. I'm not okay with you choosing yourself. And I'm not okay with never seeing you, my best friend, ever again. This hurts me. This hurts me. As you desiccate, and as you feel pangs of hunger, as the blood drains from your body, that's what I want you to remember: that you hurt me," she said.

Meanwhile, Damon still chose to be selfish with his decision, and he ended up going into a 60-year slumber.

As such, Somerhalder's character has temporarily been killed off on the show, and fans have countless theories on why this had to happen.

For instance, some fans believe that it will be more effective if Damon and Elena will be resurrected at the same time.

Some fans also think that it's time for Somerhalder to leave the franchise that's why his character was temporarily killed off.

Still, there are some fans who think that Damon will transition to be part of "The Originals" crossover.

In other news, executive producer Julie Plec previously said that "The Vampire Diaries" is not in danger of being axed unless Somerhalder and Wesley decide to exit the franchise for good.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, Plec added that a lot of people behind the show want it renewed for as long as possible.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 airs Fridays on The CW.
