In March 7, via press release, LAPD said that Mrs. Meisner moved a gun which they own, however, the trigger was accidentally pressed by another object and it eventually fired. The police further stated that the woman was already dead, with a single gunshot wound, when they arrived on the scene.

Apparently, the ex-Eagle bassist was also at home when the accident happened, and investigators said that throughout the investigation, he was very cooperative. The officials also narrated that emergency hotline 911 got a call from the musician's wife and reported a domestic violence.

She claimed that her husband was showing erratic behavior and waiving his BB gun too. Officials responded and went to the house at about 5:30 p.m. They assumed that the man was intoxicated so they simply took the report and left.

After more than an hour, a new call came in, it was from the same address as the domestic violence report, but this time, the call stated a shooting incident. Also, the caller, this time, was the former Eagles member, USA Today reported.

The police arrived and they found Mrs. Meisner sprawled and unconscious on the floor. She was later pronounced dead by the fire department rescue workers who arrived at the scene.

The musician told the officers that he heard a gunshot from another room and when he checked it out, he was surprised to find his bloodied wife, with a bullet wound in the head. Upon examination, police were convinced that there was no foul play in her death.

LAPD spokesman Gus Barrientos reiterated that the killing was not intended, "It was completely accidental, there is nothing indicative of a murder, homicide or a suicide... It's a weird accident, that's all I can say," he told New York Post
