‘The Vampire Diaries’ (TVD) Season 7 episode 16 not airing on March 11: Here is what to expect from ‘Days of Future Past’—Answers revealed (Spoilers, promo)

"The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) Season 7 is on a three-week hiatus and will not be airing a new instalment on March 11. The show will resume its run on April 1 with episode 16 titled "Days of Future Past." The highly-anticipated segment is expected to reveal the answers to some burning questions and will see Rayna forcing Stefan Salvatore (Paul Wesley) make the toughest decision of his life. Here are spoilers and promo teasing what to expect when the show returns.

 While it is too early to expect a synopsis for "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) Season 7 episode 16, a promo for "Days of Future Past" is out. Rayna has Stefan and she forces him to choose between Damon and his freedom.

The CW series has been giving a glimpse at the future and when the show returns it will pick up from this very time in the lives of the fan-favourite characters. Episode 16 "I Would for You" featured a flash forward, wherein Stefan is captured by Rayna (Leslie Ann-Huff) and talks about her plans for him and his brother Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder). He tells Stefan that the only way he can live is if he transfers his mark to someone who deserves it. And this someone is Damon.

The promo for episode 17 shows Rayna's attempt to make Stefan do as she wants him to do. Stefan can be seen in tremendous pain as she tells him, "The only way for you to be free is to let Damon go."

"Are you finally ready to leave Damon behind?" Rayna asks Stefan in the promo. "Yes," replies Stefan.

Will Stefan, who has always been by his brother's side, turn his back on Damon? In another shot, Damon can be seen rushing to save Stefan with Valerie on his side. "Now is when you prove who you really are," Valerie tells Damon.

"I am Damon Salvatore, I will figure this out," replies Damon. Scroll down to watch the trailer.

While the specific plot details for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 episode 16 are still under the wraps, showrunner Julie Plec, in her latest blog entry on Entertainment Weekly, teased what to expect. According to Plec, questions to some unexplored mysteries such as Stefan and Valerie's reunion, Bonnie and Enzo's romance and the reason why Matt Donovan is taking a stand against the Mystic Falls vampires will begin to unveil when the show returns with "Days of Future Past."

When the show returns, Damon will be in a coffin for three years. "Starting next episode, you'll get the answers in the form of what we're calling "Bridge Backs," a.k.a., a series of scenes that flash back to what happened over the three years that have passed since Damon went into the coffin," Plec wrote.
