"Married At First Sight" Season 3 couple Vanessa Nelson and Tres Russel recently opened up about their failed marriage. Among the three couples this season, only Vanessa and Tres decided to stay together during the "MAFS" finale. Unfortunately, in the "Six Months Later" episode, it was revealed that the couple also soon broke up.
In an interview with Us Weekly, Tres explained that his feelings towards Vanessa started to fade after the "Married At First Sight" Season 3 finale. While he was then "100 percent" committed in trying to make their relationship work after the social experiment is over, Tres said that he had a change of heart two months after the "Decision Day" episode.
Tres said that he and Vanessa tried everything to save their marriage, including attending counseling. Unfortunately, he soon realized that his feelings were never coming back no matter how hard they tried.
"After a heated exchange in which some hurtful things were said and done, I realized it was best for me to grab my stuff and leave, so it didn't escalate into something more."
Meanwhile, speaking to The Knot, Vanessa revealed that Tres started to act cold towards her after the social experiment. Contrary to what he previously said, Vanessa felt that they did not give it their all, adding that they both just stopped trying.
The "Married At First Sight" Season 3 star also pointed out that the lack of intimacy also played a huge part in their divorce. When Tres started to neglect her, Vanessa admitted that it made her feel insecure even more. To make matters worse, the reality star claimed that she did not know what triggered Tres' change of heart.
"It just stopped, and I asked him, 'What's going on?' He never explained it to me that way at all that he wanted to work on the friendship. It kind of felt like 'I don't like you.'"
Once the cameras stopped rolling, Vanessa held that they Tres stopped putting in the effort to get to know her. On her part, Vanessa said that she tried to make their marriage work but felt like Tres has completely given up.
