Kirsten Vangsness does not only play Penelope Garcia in "Criminal Minds" Season 11. She also contributes as a co-writer in the CBS crime drama series.
Along with showrunner Erica Messer, Vangsness co-wrote "Criminal Minds" Season 11 episode 18 titled "A Beautiful Disaster," which airs on CBS on March 23, Wednesday. The episode is directed by his co-star Matthew Gray Gubler, who plays Dr. Spencer Reid.
In an interview with Parade, Vangsness said one of the "funnest" things of writing "A Beautiful Disaster" is that everybody is thrown when something happens to someone on the team. In such cases, she said, each member's adrenaline is going and nobody is mentally creative, calm and expanded enough to deal with problems.
"Everybody's little demons come out because everybody's scared," Vangsness told the publication. "That makes for really good drama because people make mistakes, and people say things that they shouldn't."
For Vangsness, she feels like each character pretty much does something that leads to more trouble in "A Beautiful Disaster." She added that Jennifer Jareau (A.J. Cook) does not agree with what Aaron Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) is doing so she is sharing things while the latter is not sharing enough with Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore).
According to Vangsness, the started "Criminal Minds" Season 11 with the network of hit men, the Dirty Dozen, who went after her character because she began to know about them. She noted that they then solved that and viewers are aware that is over until Derek was kidnapped.
However, it was not clear who started the situation with Derek. Vangsness admitted that it confused her as much as everyone else. She said it is time to find out who is behind it now that something has happened to Derek and Savannah Hayes (Rochelle Aytes).
Meanwhile, Moore recently talked about leaving "Criminal Minds." He explained he just wants to continue to grow as an actor.
"I'm leaving to see what else I'm capable of," TV Line quoted Moore as saying. The actor, who is also set to star in "The Bounce Back," also said he is proud of his co-stars Gubler, Vangsness, Gibson and Joe Mantegna.
