With fans awaiting Jon Snow's fate, "Game of Thrones" Season 6 is set to premiere on April 24 on HBO. According to HBO programming president Michael Lombardo, women play a great role in the upcoming season.

"The women are rocking this season," Lombardo told Entertainment Weekly, whose recent cover will be graced by several female "Game of Thrones" Season 6 cast members. "And I'm not just saying that because they're on your cover."

According to Lombardo, these women power the HBO series and they are "the hope that we're watching as the chess pieces" move the new season, which is "very exciting." He said, "It's organic to the storytelling, yet a radical shift."

Here are the seven female characters of the HBO series Lombardo mentioned:

1. Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke)

Often called Dany, the character is the youngest child of King Aerys II Targaryen. She appeared in all of the seasons of the HBO series.

2. Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner)

Born and raised at Winterfell, Sansa is good at music, literature, poetry, singing, dancing, sewing and embroidering. She is the second child of Lord Eddard Stark (Sean Bean) and Lady Catelyn (Michelle Fairley).

3. Arya Stark (Maisie Williams)

Arya is the third child of Lord Eddard Stark and Lady Catelyn. Like Daenerys and Sansa, Arya is also featured in the first six "Game of Thrones" seasons

4. Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey)

Cersei is known for her great beauty. She is the elder sister of Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage) and the elder twin of Ser Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau).

5. Brienne of Tarth (Gwendoline Christie)

Initially introduced as a recurring character in "Game of Thrones" Season 2, Brienne is the only daughter of Selwyn Tarth.

6. Margaery Tyrell (Natalie Dormer)

Margaery was also introduced in "Game of Thrones" Season 2. She is the widow of King Renly Baratheon (Gethin Anthony).

7. Yara Greyjoy (Gemma Whelan)

An ironborn, Yara is the only surviving sibling of Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen). She is the only daughter of Lord Balon (Patrick Malahide) and Lady Alannys.

Meanwhile, Allen was asked in an interview with Junkee about audiences' willingness to forgive Theon for betraying the Starks. The actor said, "I think all the little pretty young ladies out there won't."
