The rumors about Sony PlayStation 5 are still wandering around the web while PlayStation 4K is still in the factories, moving down the pipeline, essentially not a PlayStation 4.5 as previously suspected. Exact specifications not revealed, sources claim it has a new powerful GPU and faster CPU.

PlayStation is getting a 4K boost, but the newest console is perhaps not as good as to offer 4k resolution, instead, gamers would experience enhanced graphic capabilities with a powerful processor and new GPU. While PS5 is years away from the market, the next gaming console by Sony might not be called 4.5, Eurogamer reported.

The game news site further claimed that Sony's R&D is currently working on prototypes, which according to multiple sources are being referred to as "PlayStation 4K."  However, even the enhanced GPU, offered to developers, would not meet the 4K criteria, but official specifications are yet to be revealed.

PlayStation 4K is reportedly a competitive suite for next generation UHD graphics with dynamic range and broader color gamut, a 4K feature yet to be integrated into modern consoles. The processing might not be mighty powerful, but a modified version of APU tech seen in the current Sony consoles is sure to bring in a better computational performance.

Like PS4, the new gaming console will feature AMD-based revitalized processors with an integrated CPU and GPU. Part of the gaming revolution depends on the progress of computer technologies. For instance, the advent of 28nm microprocessors brought forward PS4 and Xbox One, but as now 3D 'FinFET' transistor based 14nm and 16nm microprocessors have arrived, so odds are good for PlayStation 4K.

As to PlayStation 5 release date, it could take from 5-7 years before Sony incorporates even more powerful processors into the rumored console, N4BB estimated. Michael Pachter, an analyst at Wedbush Securities, says that PS5 will be rolled out in 2019 or 2020.

So the soon-to-be rumors about PlayStation 5 are a far cry, but it does allow enough time for Sony to develop a far greater manifestation of its current gaming consoles. It could be a pocket-sized portable device which users would be able to instantly stream to their TV and enjoy 4k games, even without an internet connection. For now, hopes are high for PlayStation 4K, which is on the way.
