At present, interest in virtual reality electronics are at an all-time high, as multiple tech companies have already announced their virtual reality or VR gadgets that they are about to release this year.

There is the Oculus Rift, which was developed by an independent company Oculus, and was released only this week. Likewise, HTC, in partnership with Valve, has announced its plans to release its virtual reality headset called HTC Vive by April. However, arguably the most anticipated VR headset that would hit the market is Sony's PlayStation VR.

Earlier this month, Sony PlayStation's president and CEO Andy House confirmed on the company's official blog site that their virtual reality device would be available for purchase come October, and would be priced at $399.99.

"With PlayStation VR, the future of gaming is almost here. We're excited to share more with you as we head into launch later this year" read a part of the statement.

Sony's PlayStation VR is almost half the price of the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Moreover, there is a possibility that the Sony gadget would be able to support PC.

In an interview with Japanese newspaper Nikkei, as reported by Attack of the Fanboy, Sony executive Masayasu Ito explained that while there are no current plans for the VR to support PC, the company is open to the possibility.

"Since PlayStation 4 shares a lot of its internals with PCs, the possibility is there" explained Ito.

Moreover, he revealed that, at the moment, Sony is mainly focused on the games. According to Ito, gamers should expect expansions in different aspects of gaming.

"At the moment we are focused on games and we are not ready to make any announcements at this stage, but I'd say there will be an expansion into various fields"

Sony's PS VR would be released in selected countries including the U.K., Ireland, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand and the Czech Republic by October 2016. PlayStation VR is equipped with a 5.7-inch OLED panel with a matrix resolution of 1080p. It is designed to be functional with the use of the PlayStation 4.
