As "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 returns to television screens after a three-week pause, Damon Salvatore, played by Ian Somerhalder, could have gave a clue that episode 16 might be the last episode for his character.
During Somerhalder's interview with the TV guide, he casually opened up about the possibility that an important character of the popular TV series may face death in the upcoming episode this April 1.
Killing a main character is somehow a usual scenario in the supernatural world of the "Vampire Diaries," and reviving a deceased one is also quite possible. Remember when Alaric Saltzman, played by Matt Davis, died in the series, and yet, after some episodes he was revived as a normal human being.
The biggest departure so far was when Elena, which is arguably the center of the story, left the series to pursue other offers, but she can still return, because her character (although placed inside a coffin) is said to be alive.
The explanation behind the possible death of Damon in the 16th episode of "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 could be due to his request to Paul Wesley, to magically transfer Stefan's scar onto his body. Later on, Damon would realize that what he had done could lead to his death.

According to Somerhalder, the episode would rotate on the characters in Mystic Falls and how these characters cross into a single fate. He was also caught saying that the series will lose wonderful and beautiful characters in this episode, titled "Days of Future Past."
Somerhalder added that a heartbreaking scene, which involves a key character, will catch the audience teary eyed. The character could be him, or somebody else like Rayna, who has only one life left. However, Rayna's death would have a ripple effect, as those who were scarred with her huntress mark, such as Stefan, will likely die with her.
Nevertheless, in a few days, fans will finally know which characters die and stay in the series.
