The rumored Nexus 7 2016 tablet is said to be Google's fresh attempt to challenge Apple's iPad, which sets the upcoming Pure Android device on a collision course with the iPad Mini 4 and the freshly unveiled 9.7-inch iPad Pro. How exactly the next Nexus tab will upend the iPad rule?

Basing on the speculations surrounding the third Nexus 7 so far, there are four ways the device could emerge as the victor from its impending war with iPads:

Premium build and specs

Huawei and HTC are the OEMs that likely will take charge of the 2016 Nexus 7 project and any of the two are capable of producing a 7-inch device that according to rumors Google is envisioning as a high-end device that will meet users' two key demands - productivity and entertainment.

On that end, the latest Nexus 7 instalment is seen to be powered by a mighty processing chip and three candidates have been mentioned so far - the Kirin 950, the NVIDIA Tegra XI and the Snapdragon 820. Any of the mobile chips will likely be paired with no less than 2GB of RAM (perhaps even up to 4GB) and the display resolution at 2560 x 1800, which is quite impressive for its compact size.

Android N and its killer productivity features

Under the hood, the new Nexus 7 is mighty enough but ensuring that the components will run nice and smooth is Android N. The sequel to Android Marshmallow has already previewed some of its exciting features that will delight both the casual and hardcore users. Multitasking will be a highlight of the new mobile OS from Google via Split Screen or viewing multiple apps all at once and Freeform Mode or the ability to resize an app window just like in a desktop setting.

Doze, which was introduced with Android 6.0, is also to get further enhancements that should deliver longer operating hours.

Affordable Nexus accessories

And to really optimize the productivity designs that will deploy with the Nexus 7, the tablet will require accessories that are easy to access. Reports said that a companion keyboard for the device will cost no more than $150.

The next-generation device is also said to pair smoothly with virtual reality gears, which likely will have starting price of $100.

Solid pricing

On release date, which likely will happen a few weeks after the 2016 Google I/O in May, the Nexus 7 2016 could unbox in 16GB and 32GB storage configurations with starting price of no more than $300 or $100 cheaper than that of the basic iPad Mini 4 model.
