The record-breaking Bollywood flick "PK" has been set for a major release in China in the wake of a deal between Disney India's UTV Motion Pictures and some Chinese entertainment companies.

The 2014 film, which debuted in India in December last year, received the title of becoming India's new top-grossing film of all time after it garnered gross ticket sales worldwide amounting to $100 million after its release.

Because of this, the China Film Group and Huaxia Film Group have decided to acquire the rights to release the drama-comedy satirical film where "3 Idiots" star Aamir Khan played the lead role.

To make it official, representatives of the three entertainment companies signed the release agreement on Jan. 27 with China's State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television vice-minister Tong Gang and India's ambassador to China Ashok Kantha as witnesses.

"This direct collaboration with China Film Group and Huaxia Film Group for PK is a proud moment not just for us at the studio but also for the Indian movie industry as a whole," said Disney India's Vice President and Head of Marketing, Distribution and Studios Amrita Pandey.

Meanwhile, Vidhu Vinod Chopra, one the film's directors, expressed his enthusiasm toward the partnership and declared his confidence that "PK" would "resonate with audiences in China and elsewhere in the world."

According to the agreement, "PK" would be released in about 3,500 cinemas in China.

The movie's plot revolves around an alien, played by Khan, who unexpectedly lands in India and later ends up doubting the country's religious philosophy and tradition.
