The recent time-travel drama titled "Project Almanac" of Paramount has been slammed by critics.
With a low 35% score on Rotten Tomatoes, the teen film made The Associated Press ask, "What have we done to deserve another found-footage movie?"
Written by Andrew Stark and Jason Pagan, the story of "Project Almanac" revolves around a group of teenagers discovering secret plans of a time machine. Things start to get out of control, however, when the teens decide to construct one.
On Jan. 29, Thursday, "Project Almanac" opened with a moderate $375,000 at around 2,300 theaters in the United States and will expand to 2,893 locations. It is expected to earn between the $10 million to $12 million range over the Super Bowl weekend, which may be dominated by Clint Eastwood's "American Sniper" starring Bradley Cooper, according to Variety.
"Project Almanac" was directed by Dean Israelite, the director behind "Magician, "The Department Of Nothing," "Die Jugendcops - Kommisariat 105 im Einsatz" and Acholiland.
Israelite is a cousin of Jonathan Liebesman, the director of "Shannara," "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," "Wrath Of The Titans," "Battle Los Angeles," "The Killing Room" and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning."
In the cast "Project Almanac" are Jonny Weston, Sofia Black-D'Elia, Sam Lerner, Allen Evangelista, Amy Landecker, Gary Weeks, Macsen Lintz, Gary Grubbs, Michelle DeFraites, Curry Stone, Jamila Thompson, Katie Garfield, Hillary Harley, Courtney Bowers, Patrick Johnson, Joshua Brady, Danielle Rizzo, Mychael Bates, Aaron Marcus, Andrew Benator, and Onira Tares, among others.
Also featured in the film as imagine dragons are Daniel Wayne Sermon, Daniel Reynolds, Daniel Platzman and Ben McKee.
