It was confirmed in March that the family drama series "Switched at Birth" has been renewed to have its fifth season.

The sad thing is that this will be the last time that fans would see them on the small-screen, because the show's creator and show runner Lizzy Weiss told the fans via tweet that season 5 is going to be "Switched at Birth's" final one, TVLine reported.

According to When Will, the fact that the Peabody award winning series has been renewed for its fifth season in 2015 delighted the fans, as they can still continue seeing their favorite TV show. However, the announcement of Freeform, formerly ABC, that it will be the "Switched at Birth's" last one left the fans in shock. Some fans may have not believed the sudden cancellation until the show's creator and executive producer herself confirmed it, and said that they are ending the show with pride, love and gratitude.

Another bad news is that "Switched at Birth" season 5's release date will not be possible this April, and that it has been moved to 2017. It was reported that the show's EP announced in March that "Switch at Birth" season 5 will be on the small-screen by April 2016, but the latest statement of Weiss points out to a 2017 release date. Although the show has been delayed, Weiss promised the fans that the upcoming season will be the most awesome season of the show.

If the cancellation and 2017 shocked the fans, they will be very surprise that season 5 is reported to air 10 episodes only, when the previous seasons have an average of 20 to 30 episodes.

On the other hand, because some fans just do not want to let go of "Switched at Birth," they started an online petition on Change(dot)Org as a way to knock the door of Freeform, and force the network to reconsider its decision. After two weeks, the petition generated 2,600 signatures, which may not be enough to change the network's initial decision with "Switched at Birth."
