Despite the clear refusal from "Game of Thrones" showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss, the creator of the show's source novels George R.R. Martin is still hopeful that the series will be followed by a couple of spin-offs, since "there is certainly no lack of material."

"There are eight million stories in Westeros as well and even more in Essos and the lands beyond," the writer told Entertainment Weekly. "A whole world full of stories, waiting to be told if indeed HBO is interested."

The author's declaration has triggered a new hope among the Emmy-winning show's fans who are already up with several spin-off ideas like the stories of Robert's Rebellion or those of Targaryen civil war. However, the 67-year-old seemed to be more interested in exploring "Dunk & Egg" stories for the spinoffs.

"Dunk & Egg" are a series of novellas set almost a hundred years before the events of "Game of Thrones." It follows Ser Duncan the Tall, a landless hedge knight and his squire, Egg, who later becomes King Aegon V Targaryen of Westeros.

Martin was reportedly hopeful that the three novel series can be easily made into a two-hour standalone movie. However, the tone of "Dunk & Egg" is more comic than Martin's "The Song of Ice And Fire," the series upon which "Game of Thrones" is based. "Dunk & Egg" is a trio of novellas so far while Martin is expected to add more books in the series very soon, Winter Is Coming reported.

Earlier, it was declared that the hit HBO fantasy drama series is going to end sooner than expected. While HBO president Michael Lombardo suggested that the show will only last for eight seasons with standard 10-episode run, the showrunners recently revealed that the final two seasons may be shortened  with a seven-episode Season 7 and a six-episode Season 8.

The showrunners also slammed the rumors that after its conclusion, "Game of Thrones" spin-offs will be considered owing to the massive fan following of the series. However, HBO is yet to make an official statement regarding the matter.

Meanwhile, "Game of Thrones" Season 6 is set to premiere on April 24 on HBO. The network has recently released another promo reminding the fans that the wait is finally over. Check out the new teaser below:
