YouTube's 360 videos and live-streaming are both newfound entertainment tools, but now the both features are combining to give users a live 360 video experience. The new feature will take its first flight by featuring a few performances from Coachella 2016.
The 2016 Coachella music festival is going to be the ribbon-cutter of YouTube's new 360 video live-stream feature, CNET reported. YouTube 360 live-stream is a marriage of virtual reality technology with live broadcasting, however, to get a more immersive experience, viewers of the live 360 video feed must wear Google Cardboard or some other VR headset.
The 360 video live-streams will change the way people watch the live events in the world. It opens up a new world of possibilities where the online spectators will be able to watch basketball games, conferences, and many live events in real time.
For example, in a cricket match, a TV viewer is limited to follow feeds from different cameras. He has to see what the rapidly switching camera feeds show him. With the virtue of 360-video streaming live from YouTube's 360 cameras present in the stadium, users will be able to see what they want, whether it is a ball going to the boundary or a beautiful girl sitting in the row behind.
Being able to witness live events with varying angles is something internet has never offered to its users till date, until now. Coachella 2016 is the perfect occasion to let people fully experience the power of YouTube's real-time VR like live 360 video streaming. However, YouTube users are not required to use VR headset, the YouTube player has an inbuilt support for the mouse that allows users to rotate the virtual camera through the player's interface.
Those who want to watch this year's Coachella event live in 360 on YouTube can also use their smartphones or desktop computers for the purpose, VR headset is just a requirement for a far more entertaining and more realistic experience, it is not mandatory to use a virtual reality headset.
Industry analyst Jeff Kagan thinks that virtual reality market is still passing through its early stages. "That means it's important for all the players to stick their flag in the ground as one of the first in space. This is YouTube putting its flag in the ground," Computer World quoted Kagan as saying.
