The New York Knicks seem to be on the news more in the offseason as they try to plug their holes in order to return to the playoffs next season.

One of the biggest issues hounding the team is their long term solution at the point guard spot. For the past months, the Knicks were speculated to trade for big names like Jeff Teague, but they were not able to gather enough assets to pull it off.

Thus, the focus went to free agency since the Knicks did not own their first round pick. The Knicks are expected to pursue names like Mike Conley and possibly Brandon Jennings but there's no assurance that they could land them.

One possibility is that New York could sign Rajon Rondo. Carmelo Anthony was already selling this idea, but is it the right move for the Knicks?

In a scathing article on team site The Daily Knicks, Chipper Murphy strongly opposed the possibility of taking on the league's assist leader.

His word of caution: "Rondo would be counted on as a savior. The solution to the long-held point guard problem. He's just not that guy anymore."

Murphy mentioned that Sacramento's shooters are actually better when Rondo is off the floor. He also stated that Rondo still takes "an All-Star workload" even though he could not deliver anymore.

Rondo is also a liability shooting-wise as he can hardly score beyond five feet from the basket. "From less than 5 ft., Rondo was 59 percent but from outside of that his numbers were terrible. He finished above the league average at 61.3 percent in the restricted area, but was just 33.3 percent on jump shots," Murphy noted.

With Rondo's dramatic antics in Dallas and Sacramento where he uttered gay slurs to a referee, he will definitely be distracted by the circus that is the Big Apple.

Which is why recent reports had the Knicks pursuing Darren Collison-the other Sacramento Kings' point guard. The report from Ian Begley of ESPN had the details.

Begley said that "one player some in the organization are fond of is Darren Collison, who backed up Rondo in Sacramento this year, sources say."

However, as with any trade the Knicks would like to pursue, the question is whether they have the assets. Collison may already be their "downgrade option" from Jeff Teague, but there is no assurance they can pull it off.
