Just like in the other Marvel films, Stan Lee also has a cameo appearance in "Captain America: Civil War"; however, this time, he plays an important role in the movie.

The beloved comic book writer has become a familiar face in Marvel movies because of his cameo appearances. He has appeared in the "X-Men" and "Spider-Man" films, in "Avengers: Age of Ultron," "Iron Man 2" and "Guardians of the Galaxy," to name a few. His scenes were mostly not crucial to the movie's storyline. However, it is a different case with "Captain America: Civil War," since he has an important part to play with the Avengers being united again.

The movie's director Joe Russo said in an interview with Australia's radio station Nova 96.9 that they wanted to surprise viewers with Lee's cameo, so they made it different. Instead of his usual gag appearances, he was given a relevant role in "Captain America: Civil War." His role was to deliver "a key piece of information in the movie," Cinemablend quoted Russo as saying.

In "Captain America: Civil War," Lee had a cameo nearing the end of the movie. He appeared after the Avengers had battled each other, which resulted to Hawkeye, Ant-Man and Scarlet Witch put to jail by General Thaddeus Ross.

He appeared in the middle of Tony Stark and James Rhodes conversation, while the latter was practicing to walk on his robotic legs. He literally came in bringing a message for Stark - Lee's role was a Fed Ex deliveryman. He gave Stark a letter from Steve Rogers, which contained a very inspiring message about unity.

In the letter, Rogers told Stark that he still values being an Avenger and that despite what they went through, he will always be there to lend him a helping hand. Lee's cameo was a crucial step in bringing the team back together.

Lee also mentioned his "Captain America: Civil War" cameo appearance in a video from Comicbook. The video showed Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. asking him to choose sides between Team Cap and Team Iron Man. In jest, Lee said he does not really care about the conflict, as long as he has a good cameo in the movie.
