Fans are still waiting for the official unveiling of the PlayStation NEO, also known as PlayStation 4.5, from Sony (NASDAQ: SNE). However, the announcement for the upgraded PS4 might come sooner than the Internet thought.

Several months ago, rumors about an upgraded version of Sony's current console dubbed as PlayStation NEO or the PlayStation 4.5. Little by little, speculations have surfaced including some hints from Sony's own executives.

Verified sources have been posting about the upcoming console which is one reason why the Internet can no longer deny that it does not exist. Even the tech giant itself did not shoot down any of the speculations for that matter.

However, some are confused as to why the console won't be named the PlayStation 5. One reason is because all the sources and information leaks pointed out that it would only be an upgraded version of the PlayStation 4.

While there is no official name yet, the upcoming console has a number of names. The official codename as agreed by the sources is PlayStation NEO, but it is also being called as the PlayStation 4.5 or even the PlayStation 4K.

Jeremy Dunham from Psyonix, the developer of the popular "Rocket League," has said that the new console would not be a major leap from the current one. The developer even said that it would really "change much" in the way of things in the video game industry, according to Daily Star.

Still, fans are excited about the PlayStation NEO or the PlayStation 4.5 simply because it would be more powerful than its predecessor. It would also allow them to play the newer games at 4K resolution, hence the other codename.

Leaked information has already showed that Sony is requiring developers to make separate versions of their game. One version is for the PS4, while the other is for the upgraded version.

The PS NEO or the PS4.5 will be able to run true 60 frames per second because of its upgraded hybrid CPU/GPU unit, according to Stuff. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee that players will be able to use their PS4 version games on the new console.

With that said, there is no official announcement from Sony yet regarding the upgraded version of their current console. However, there are speculations that the PlayStation 4 NEO would be unveiled before the company's PlayStation VR is released.
