Amazon had recently revealed the digital box art of the "Batman: The Killing Joke" and that it will be available on physical Blue-ray and DVD on August 2. However, it will become available earlier for Digital HD download on July 23.

DC has released several animated comic book adaptations with runtimes more than an hour. The reason for the additional length on Batman's new animated movie is a prologue regarding the story behind Barbara Gordon, Batman-News has learned.

Barbara Gordon, who will be played by Tara Strong (Justice League Action), is popularly known as one of the many Batgirls. However, it is also a known fact that she ends up paralyzed from the waist down and becomes the Oracle later on.

In The Killing Joke, the main villain is Joker. Star Wars veteran star Mark Hamill reprises his role as the Clown Prince of Crime. Hamill has also voiced several Jokers in the animated series and even the Arkham Knight video game.

Kevin Conroy will also reprise his role as Batman once again, ComiConverse reported. Conroy has voiced Bruce Wayne several times from the "Batman: The Animated Series" and other animated films.

The additional backstory focus on Barbara Gordon will give the new viewers a sense of connection to the character. It could also place more importance on Batgirl when she is crippled later on by Joker.

Before The Killing Joke, DC has recently released the "Justice League vs. Teen Titans" animated film. It featured the Teen Titans battling corrupted versions of Wonder Woman, Superman and The Flash.

Fans can buy a digital or a physical copy of the animated films on Amazon. Warner Bros. said that the deluxe edition and combo pack versions will include behind-the-scenes documentary for the film and an episode from "The New Batman Adventures."

The official trailer for "Batman: The Killing Joke" has already been released and it offers a sneak peek on what is in store for the fans. Viewers can buy the digital HD version starting on July 23.
