"Civil War" is the third offshoot project from the "Captain America" franchise and its audience reception is evidently stronger than the previous installments. "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" bowed to $95 million while "Captain America: The First Avenger" debuted to $65.1 million.

Touted as the story which follows the massive strife between Iron Man and Captain America, "Civil War" did not disappoint the Marvel fandom as the movie offered back-to-back action scenes while also introducing new faces including the Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Spider-Man/Peter Parker (Tom Holland). Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner and Anthony Mackie also made appearances as their famous Avengers counterparts.

The movie, which costs $250 million, received positive reviews from critics and fans. According to CinemaScore, moviegoers who are under 25 gave "Civil War" an A+ grade on its weekend debut.

Critics praised the directorial skills of Joe Russo and Anthony Russo as well as the well-written screenplay of Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely. "Civil War’s" dramatization of Iron Man and Capt. America’s feud entangled with rich and mesmerizing action sequences are what made the film an instant smash.

In other box office news, “The Jungle Book” landed the second spot with $21.9 million on its fourth weekend. “Mother’s Day” took the third place with $9 million and “The Huntsman: Winter’s War” finished fourth with $3.6 million.
