Many TV viewers were left high and dry last week, as major networks cancelled several shows to prepare for upfront presentations later this month. In other words, it has been upsetting news for fans of shows like "Castle," "Nashville," "CSI: Cyber" and even "The Muppets."

In fact, the ensuing week is the beginning of TV networks' annual upfront presentations, wherein they will try to entice advertisers to purchase time on their channels for their offerings this fall. As far as the viewers are concerned, the events taking place next week will offer a first look at the new as well as the returning series on the networks this fall, the New York Times reported.

On Thursday, May 12, ABC axed popular shows like "Agent Carter," "The Muppets" and "The Family," in addition to "Nashville," which will draw curtains on its fourth season this month, US Magazine said.However, "Nashville" fans have some hope of watching the musical soap, as Lionsgate is said to be trying to market the series to other networks.

While ABC also cancelled the "Castle," pulling the troubled procedural from its misery following Stana Katic's announcement to quit the show after season 8 finale. Fox also dropped two new comedies, "Grandfathered" and "The Grinder." Similarly, CBS axed "CSI: Cyber," while "Supergirl" will now move to The CW.

Fans' woes continued on Friday, May 13, as NBC dropped Eva Longoria's new sitcom "Telenovela," in addition to other new series like "Crowded," "Heartbeat," and "Game of Silence." NBC also jettisoned "Undateable" just after three seasons.

The shows canelled by ABC include "Agent Carter," "Castle," "Galavant," "Of Kings and Prophets," "Nashville,"  "Rookie Blue," "The Muppets," "The Whispers," "The Astronaut Wives Club" and "Wicked City," while CBS axed shows like "Angel From Hell," "CSI: Cyber," "Extant," "Mike and Molly," "Person of Interest," "Supergirl," "The Good Wife" and "Under the Dome."

Fox dropped "American Idol," "Bordertown," "Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life," "Grandfathered," "Knock Knock Live," and "The Grinder," while NBC also followed suit with series such as "Best Time Ever With Neil Patrick Harris,"  "Crowded," "Game of Silence," "Heartbeat," "Hannibal," "Heroes Reborn," "Mr. Robinson," "Telenovela" and "Undateable."

The CW was not to be left behind, as it axed "America's Next Top Model," "Beauty and the Beast" and "Containment."
