Even as Samsung is preparing to launch of its Galaxy Note 6 later this year, latest reports suggest that the South Korean tech giant has lined up the launch of five flagship smartphones in 2017. These devices include the Galaxy S8, the Galaxy S8 Edge, the Galaxy Note 7, the Galaxy Note 7 Edge and the Galaxy X.
Interestingly, Samsung had earlier promised to cut down its smartphone production during the last two years with a view to de-saturate the market. Nevertheless, now the company is ramping up its handset production and scheduled their release for 2017.
According to a post on the Chinese social media website Weibo, the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge which were launched recently would be succeeded by Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8 Edge respectively. In addition, the company will launch the Galaxy Note 7 and Galaxy Note 7 Edge, which will succeed the existing versions in July or August, SamMobile reported citing the Chinese website.
The Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 7 are likely to be similar to the handsets Samsung released in the past. They will come with updated specifications. However, some reports claimed that the Korean company may start incorporating features like 6GB of RAM and USB Type-C in all its future devices.
Among the smartphones Samsung plans to release in 2017, the Galaxy X model is the most talked about device. Apart from being a foldable device, this smartphone will feature 4K display and come with diamond PenTile sub-pixel display. Earlier reports suggested that the Korean tech firm has already been granted patent for developing the new device.
Previous reports suggested that the Galaxy X will sport a 5-inch display that folds out into a 7-inch tablet. Codenamed Project Valley, the Galaxy X is likely to go on mass production towards the end of 2016. The company has already showcased the foldable smartphone at several consumer electronics trade shows this year, iDigital Times reported.
As far as the remaining four purported flagship devices are concerned, they are expected to feature Super AMOLED display rendering 2.5K resolution and boast an RBG sub-pixel display. While it is very early to speculate the other specs and features of these smartphones, they are certain to have increased RAM, superior processors, cameras and battery units compared to the Galaxy S7.
In addition, they will also incorporate fingerprint reader, waterproof technology and other features present in Samsung's current flagship smartphone.
