"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 is rumored to feature another breakup between Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Caroline (Candice Accola-King).

In the finale episode for season 7, Caroline and Stefan decided to get back together and this decision didn't sit well with fans. After all, Caroline already got hurt and broken by Stefan, but it appeared as though it was very easy for her to forgive him.

While speaking with TV Line, executive producer Julie Plec said that she hopes Caroline and Stefan will be given the opportunity to be happy first before anything else happens to their relationship again.

"I always say that the saddest and truest rule of television is that there's no drama in happy. But there's also that exception to that rule, which is that sometimes happiness is as comforting as soup when you're sick. I'd really like to see Caroline and Stefan enjoy some of that comfort for as long as we can eek it out, before they have to stumble across another obstacle," she said.

Meanwhile, since Stefan will be struggling to help his older brother Damon (Ian Somerhalder), the former will definitely need Caroline to be there and support him.

"Stefan's really going to need her. He's very determined to get Damon back on track, and it's not going to be an easy task. He's going to need someone there for moral support," she said.

In other news, Plec's cryptic response about Caroline and Stefan's future seems to suggest that there's indeed hope for the former to end up with Klaus (Joseph Morgan) from "The Originals."

Since "The Vampire Diaries" is in danger of being cancelled after season 8, it seems that Caroline will crossover to "The Originals" to be with Klaus. After all, Plec previously said that even though "The Vampire Diaries" will be axed from The CW, the network already has plans to renew "The Originals" for more seasons.

Additionally, Alaric (Matt Davis) is also out of the picture when it comes to Caroline's love life. The two will decide to stay friends for the sake of their twins.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 8 will premiere on The CW sometime this fall.
