Nintendo's Pokémon GO is now open for both Android and iOS players in the United States who want to try the upcoming augmented reality game as Niantic opens the field test.

The new game would take players out of their homes and into the streets as they try to catch them all. Pokémon GO functions similarly to Niantic's Ingress AR game as players need to move in the real life in order to see and try to capture more Pokémon.

Nintendo has not yet officially announced the release date of the game. Early reports claim that it will be launched by summer.

However, the recent field tests the Pokémon GO development team is conducting means that it could be far from over. Japan, New Zealand, Australia are just some of the areas that had tests, Neurogadget reported.

If the game would be launched by the Japanese video game company globally, they would probably need to test it in each continent possible. There are billions of Android users alone that are scattered throughout the globe.

Pokémon GO was one of the last significant projects that former Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata supervised before he passed away, Forbes reported. The game became highly-anticipated as the trailer shows that players could see their Pokémon sitting, standing or battling on real-life locations based on the AR tech.

Since the testing has already begun, there have been several leaks of information regarding the game. One of the details leaked was that the game could only feature the original 150 Pokémon listed in the earlier versions of the Pokedex in games.

Players in the US could try to sign up for the field test. However, signing up does not guarantee a slot for a tester.

Niantic could also be using their own data from Ingress to improve Pokémon GO. The portals from the game could also be used as Pokestops in the new Pokémon AR game.

There would also be different kinds of Pokeballs available. One leaked footage video shows the person playing using a Masterball on an Ivysaur after a failed attempt on a basic Pokeball.

Pokémon GO would prove to be another successful game from both Nintendo and Niantic. Players could expect it to arrive on Android and iOS devices after the field tests have been completed.
