"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 finale laid the foundation for Season 8 opener. In a flash forward scene, featuring three-month time jump, Damon and Enzo are still missing. The vault is empty and no one has a clue where Damon and Enzo went. Bonnie has no powers and continues to suffer. Meanwhile, Stefan thinks of Elena and promises to bring Damon and Enzo back. Several people go missing and the rest of the gang realises that Damon and Enzo, who are on killing spree, might be behind the killings.

"The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) Season 8 is expected to see Stefan's quest for Damon and Enzo. While it remains unknown where in the timeline episode 1 will pick up from, it is certain that the show will dig deeper the reason behind Damon and Enzo's transformation.

Fans must brace themselves for a new villain to be introduced in Season 8. This monster is said to be behind the destruction of Damon and Enzo's soul. In an interview with TV Line, "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) showrunner Julie Plec teased new villain.

When asked what is the evil force that changed Damon and Enzo is called, Plec responded: "We are not calling it anything, we are waiting for Season 8. I mean, internally, we're calling it something, but we're not telling people what that is yet. It's funny, this is the first time we've done this little story trick where we're actually withholding the identity and mythology of the new villain from the audience before the next season. What could it be that's been around for thousands of years? We didn't see it, but it has some creepy ass monster hands, and it has the ability to get inside your head and strip away everything good about you. There's a nice mystery taking us into next season about what exactly this creature is."

In addition, Bonnie will be reportedly seen suffering and "paralyzed by this struggle" as she continues to deal with the pain of losing two important men in her life and her magic. Speaking about Stefan and Caroline, fans can take comfort in the fact that they will come together for Stefan's new mission.

Plec said that Stefan is "really going to need her."

"He's very determined to get Damon back on track, and it's not going to be an easy task. He's going to need someone there for moral support," Plec added.

In addition, CW has announced their fall schedule and revealed a brief description of "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) Season 8. According to IGN, Bonnie will join hands with Stefan, Alaric and Caroline, to bring Damon, her closest friend, and Enzo, the love of her life, back.

Meanwhile, the network has confirmed that the show will continue to air on Fridays at 8:00 pm. As for the airdate, "The Vampire Diaries" (TVD) Season 8 episode 1 is expected to air sometime in October 2016. The CW is yet to reveal the official date. So, stay tuned for more updates and spoilers.
