Xiaomi has recently unveiled their new Mi Box for streaming 4K shows and movies with an Android TV base operating system and baked Google Cast capability.

The Chinese tech company has been famous in the past few years for providing cheap but high-end smartphones and tablets. Now, it has revealed the Mi Box which is basically an Android TV set-top box that has 4K capabilities.

Hugo Barra, the global vice president of Xiaomi, demonstrated their set-top box during the Google I/O 2016 conference. The company said that they will also be launching the device in the United States, but no price has been revealed yet.

Xiaomi's Mi Box runs the latest version of Android TV v6.0 and not the company's own MIUI TV software, NDTV reported. Its capability to stream 4K videos puts it on the roster of capable set-top boxes.

Under the hood, the set-top box has a Mali 450 GPU for processing all those videos and is powered by a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU. The smooth user interface is also made possible with 2GB of RAM.

Users who want to store and watch their offline videos on the Mi Box can do so with its 8GB internal storage. If that is not enough, a USB can be used instead.

Xiaomi has also included a voice remote feature so users can just shout at the set-top box instead of typing what they want to see, WIRED reported. Bluetooth controllers can also be used instead of the Mi Game controller.

The MI Box can stream 4K videos up to 60 frames per second which is pretty impressive in itself. It supports HDMI 2.0a specifications which can be found in most current TVs and monitors today.

Other nifty features the Xiaomi device has is that it also supports HDR10, DTS Surround Sound and Dolby Digital Plus for those with home theatre set-ups. The size and look of the device is not an eye sore and can be shown in plain view in the living room.

Xiaomi has not yet unveiled how much the Mi Box will cost or when it will be released. The company did confirm that it will be launched in the US as well.
