"Empire" season 3 will reportedly introduce more information about who Shyne Johnson is.

In the finale episode for season 2, Shyne was already shown on the hit FOX series. However, not much is known about who he is.

While speaking with Entertainment Weekly, showrunner Ilene Chaiken said that Shyne is a very important character who will have multiple storylines in the upcoming installment.

"Both he and Tariq are very much in the mix in our third season. Shyne isn't necessarily an adversary, although I think he could become an adversary. Lucious has a long history with him - history that's going to come back and bite Lucious for a lot of earlier slights. If you have a guy who's not afraid to die, not afraid to go to prison, that's a very dangerous adversary," she said.

Meanwhile, Chaiken also talked about Lucious (Terrence Howard) stepbrother Tariq. In the finale episode, Tariq's relationship to Lucious was revealed. But other than this, the showrunner said that this surprising twist will somewhat set the tone for "Empire" season 3.

"We're working on season 3 right now, and the finale, with all of its big cliffhangers, really sets the tone for what's next. The third season of 'Empire' is a Godfathered-style opus of crime and hip-hop. That's really what we're doing, and the fact that Tariq is Lucious' half-brother makes it that much more dark and twisted and personal," she explained.

In other news, Lucious and Cookie's (Taraji P. Henson) eldest son Andre (Trai Byers) will continue to struggle in the third season of "Empire."

Last season, Andre lost his baby when his wife Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) fell down the stairs after being pushed by Anika (Grace Gealey).

In the finale, Rhonda and Anika had a heated confrontation at the balcony, and Chaiken said that it is highly possible that either one of the two women would fall off the building and die.

If Rhonda will be killed off, things will become even tougher for Andre. The latter is also battling with bipolar disorder. On the contrary, if Rhonda survives, she and Andre would have to agree on whether or not they could still fix their broken marriage.

"Empire" season 3 will premiere on FOX sometime this year.
