AMD and the Nintendo NX might have actually led to Sony deciding to make the PlayStation NEO 4K or the PlayStation 4.5 as they move to14nm Polaris GPU.

The current line of video game consoles has been using the 28nm manufacturing process for several years now. AMD has recently announced their new 14nm technology and a business line that may have pertained to the PlayStation NEO 4K and the Nintendo NX.

As the chip methods evolve, they become more powerful and more efficient than before. The new chips will slowly phase out the previous generations which the PS4 relies on.

Sony could have decided to jump on the bandwagon and launch a new console. The PlayStation NEO 4K, or the PlayStation 4.5, is a good candidate to use the new AMD chips but some fans are disappointed to know that it will not skip a generation.

With the upcoming PS VR, Sony is in need of a more powerful console. The initial reports have claimed that the new upgraded console would be more powerful than the PS4 by a significant margin but not enough to merit it as a jump to the next gen.

AMD's new 14nm manufacturing process and the Polaris GPU would be the best option for Sony as producing the PlayStation NEO 4K would be cheaper in terms of production costs, Firstpost has learned. The Nintendo NX has also been speculated to use the Polaris GPU but with a slightly modified version.

Nintendo's new console could even take on the Microsoft Xbox Two and the PlayStation 4.5 because of its more powerful chip. It would even be a hybrid console which means it would compete with handheld consoles as well.

Sony is expected to launch the PlayStation NEO 4K by September as a video games distributor accidentally leaked the info, Mobile & Apps reported. The Nintendo NX is also expected to be finally unveiled within the same month range.

Both of the consoles and the Xbox Two are expected to be able to run 4K games at 60 frames per second. That would be a huge leap over the last generation plus it could even finally take on PC gamers who are just preparing to upgrade to the latest NVIDIA GTX 1080 and GTX 1070.

AMD's Polaris GPU and the Nintendo NX could have forced Sony to make the decision to make the PlayStation NEO 4K. Fans will have to wait for their official announcements in a couple of months.
