Did Tesla just pirate Apple employees?
In the world of fierce technological competition, human resource is just as important as technological breakthrough and this has gone to a whole new level that some company's poach directly on their competitor's workforce just like what happened when Tesla pirated 150 employees straight from Apple.
In a recent employment drive, the battery-powered car manufacturer hired around 150 employees ranging from human resource staff and legal counsel to engineers directly from Apple, according to The Register. Tesla founder Elon Musk added that the two companies share the same design philosophies and that they are "closely aligned."
The single mass employment done by Tesla from Apple is by far the biggest employment drive ever done by a single company.
This move by Tesla comes as no surprise to the tech community since employee piracy is a widely accepted norm within Silicon Valley that houses big tech companies like Google, Oracle, eBay, Amazon and Electronic Arts.
According to Musk, Apple has tried luring Tesla's employees by giving out hefty signing bonuses that could sometimes amount to as much as $250,000 along with a promise of 60 -percent in terms of pay increase, according to Bloomberg.
Many analysts say that Tesla's move to acquire Apple employees is for it to be able to incorporate better computer designs to its cars.
Tesla's Model S full-size sedan rely most of its function to the 17-inch touchscreen present on the cars dashboard. The touchscreen computer allows users to control the panoramic roof, air conditioning and it also has Internet access. Just like most Apple products, Tesla's operating system is also updated regularly through wireless updates.
