Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. announced that they have completed testing of the new 5G air interface technology.
In a statement, the company said that, according to the field tests that it has conducted, the new technology was able to improve spectrum efficiency. Huawei conducted the tests in Chendu in April, Telecom Talk reported.
The tests demonstrated that the new air interface is able to handle 3.6Gbps data speeds using a 100Mhz system, increasing mobile broadband bandwidth and being able to support a large number of mobile devices.
Huawei said that the interface is made of three new technologies that they are currently developing: Filtered Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (F-OFDM), Sparse Code Multiple Access (SCMA), and Polar Code.
The company said that the results proved that these three technologies can be integrated to create a flexible 5G system.
According to Huawei's 5G chief scientist Dr. Wen Tong, the tests serve as an important step in developing future 5G technologies.
Wen also noted that his company and its partners are the first ones to complete such key technologies that can be used for their proposed setup, Fierce Wireless reported.
The tests were conducted under the guidelines set by the IMT-2020 5G Promotion Group. The group is an initiative of the China Academy of Information and Communication Technology to help in the promotion and further development of 5G technology. It aims to have the technology standard be adopted by the global mobile industry by 2020.
Huawei is one of the founding members of the IMT-2020 5G Promotion Group.
