NBA Fit App

The new NBA Fit app was launched on June 1, Wednesday and just in time for the NBA Finals between the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers. It is the pro basketball league's first fitness app and resulted from the NBA teaming up with sports clothing company Under Armour. The free app for iOS and Android combines exclusive content from the NBA and the Under Armour Connected Fitness platform.

This new app gives hoops fans the ability to track fitness goals and progress, and share with friends and family. They can also join virtual fitness-training challenges.

The app also provides workout tips from NBA trainers. That means app users could get advice from pro trainers who work with superstars such as LeBron James and Stephen Curry. In fact, Curry is Under Armour's biggest star endorser.

Some content with training tips will also include videos provided by NBA and WNBA players.During the playoffs Curry appeared in a video on the app that explains how he plays golf to continue his in-game rhythm, according to Mashable.

WNBA star Skylar Diggins is featured in another video. She recently used weight training and polymetrics to recover from a major knee injury.

The app also seems to function as a type of social network. People can follow the feeds of other NBA Fit users such as The Rock.

Completing some of the app's challenges will also provide promotions including tickets to an NBA game.

Todd Jacobson is the NBA's senior vice president of social responsibility. In a statement on the NBA's website he stated that the league is combining its fitness knowledge with Under Armour's connected fitness know-how. It will help people to eat healthy, stay active, and play together.

In related news, at the recent Computex trade show Microsoft showcased a new feature for Windows Hello that allows fitness tracker owners to log into their Windows 10 PC, according to PCWorld. The software giant demoed the new feature using wearables such as Microsoft Band.

It builds on the Windows Hello Companion Device Framework. The wearable-based authentication allows Windows 10 owners to log in and verify a purchase made at the Windows Store, or log in to a site using the Microsoft Edge browser.
