Mojang just announced that Minecraft officially sold more than 100 million copies across the different platforms available after the franchise was acquired by Microsoft for $2.5 billion in 2014.

Another interesting tidbit is that there are about 53000 copies of Minecraft that is sold every day across the globe since the start of 2016. The sandbox adventure video game has been out for more than seven years but it is still rocking the market.

Minecraft allows players to build almost anything that they like inside the massive virtual sandbox using the available materials. They can make figures of space ships, a KFC store, a complete mall and even a whole island resort.

The player's freedom to do as they please is one of the title's highlights. There is still an adventure just waiting to unfold but it is not mandatory to enjoy the game itself.

Microsoft announced that there are now over 40 million unique Minecraft players per month, The Verge has learned. That figure does not even account all the pirated copy players that flood multiplayer servers.

Just like Bethesda's Fallout video games, the game is also open to hundreds of mods. Some want the graphics to be more realistic while others want to change the appearance of the animals and other mobs in game.

Multiplayer servers in Minecraft have also evolved in terms of the gameplay. Some conduct player vs. player servers while others maintain a large community all with the different creations and homes of their players.

The Redmond-based company even claimed that Minecraft players could already amount to a large nation next to Mexico and Japan, Fortune reported. Figures can still increase especially as the company also acquired the maker of the educational modified version.

In addition to the updates for the game, Microsoft and Mojang are also planning to expand their reach via educational facilities. Their Educational version will allow students and professors to learn more through the game itself.

Minecraft sales continues to move onwards 100 million and there is no end in sight. More major changes in game could even push more copies to be sold especially as Mojang is set to penetrate the strict Chinese market.
