In the sixth episode of "Game of Thrones" Season 6, uncle Benjen Stark made his surprising and heroic return when he came to Bran and Meera's rescue, while the latter were being chased by White Walkers.

If you're stumped as to who Benjen is, that's fairly understandable considering he suddenly fell off the man years ago when he rode north of the Wall only to disappear until recently. In "Blood of my Blood," fans were treated to what could be the reason behind Benjen's sudden disappearance and why he has resurfaced only now.

Benjen told Bran that he and two other members of the Night's Watch were attacked by wights when they ranged north of the Wall. He was stabbed through the stomach with a sword made of ice. While the other men died, several Children of the Forest managed to save Benjen from the clutches of the wight's magic by stabbing him with dragonglass before the effect of the curse could reach his heart.

In recall, the Children of the Forest created the first White Walker by piercing a piece of dragonglass through the heart of an Andal. As for Benjen, the effect was not quite the same. He did not turn into a full white walker, instead the process left him not quite dead and not quite alive.

It is believed by fans that the Benjen Stark may be Coldhands. His characteristics are the same as Coldhands' description in the books. He wears a Night's Watch cloak and allies himself with the Three-Eyed Raven, Vox reported.

Fans also speculated that Benjen was the one who safely tucked away a stash of dragonglass daggers and a horn, which Sam Tarly conveniently found at the time he discovered that dragonglass is one of the few things that can actually kill a White Walker.

Benjen's arrival is a godsend to Bran and Meera who were feeling hopeless after the White Walkers attacked their tree in "The Door." Although Benjen adviced Bran he should travel back to Castle Black, his also cautioned that the ice mark he got from the Night's King serves as a tracking device, The Telegraph wrote. As a consequence, the hoard of White Walkers could easily follow them and enter the Seven Kingdoms.

Benjen might be able to teach Bran the things the Three-Eyed Raven has yet to teach him before his untimely death. He could also find a remedy that will prevent the Night's King from following Bran through his ice mark.
