Apple's yearly Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will start in about a week on June 13. The tech giant could announce Apple Watch 2 at WWDC 2016 but it would probably not be an official announcement so the release date is still an enigma. Apple's new smartwatch will reportedly have the same design as the original Apple Watch and new internals.

Apple Watch was first introduced in September 2014. Since that time the smartwatch's owners have tested the device to figure out how it could be improved.

The smart watch could be named Apple Watch S. A major form factor might not be available until 2017 in a totally new version of the wrist wearable.

The next-generation Apple Watch will still likely include upgrades including a better display and bigger battery. Rumored specs include a FaceTime camera and WiFi connectivity. If the smartwatch gets a Wi-Fi chip it would become a stand-alone unit that could work without being tethered to iPhones, according to Ecumenical News.

It is possible Apple Watch 2.0 will not be released in June. However, the first-gen Apple Watch recently got a price decrease, which seems to suggest a new version is on the way.

WWDC will take place from June 13 to 17. In the case that Apple Watch 2 is not unveiled at WWDC 2016 another likely release date would be September with the iPhone 7.

One X factor related to the release date of Apple Watch 2 is the lack of apps that are being developed for it. Realm told Business Insider that for every 1,000 new iOS apps there is only one Watch app, according to PC Adviser. This could delay the new version's launch.

At this year's March event Apple showed off some new straps for Apple Watch. Meanwhile, the California company also slashed the price of Apple Watch units by $100 in February.

Apple likely will not introduce much new hardware at WWDC 2016, but it could show off new Macs. On the software side it might introduce Siri for Mac, an Apple iTunes and Music refresh, and new Touch ID features.

Apple has several projects in progress for Macs and the next version of OS X that it might unveil at the dev conference.
