The PlayStation Vita sales in Japan have already reached 5 million. "Dragon Quest Heroes II" has sold 374,000 copies across all PlayStation platforms.

The number of the handheld consoles sold in the country had already reached 5 million, according to Media Create. It has only come in second place behind the PlayStation 4, which has sold a lot of units in its total lifetime. Famitsu has placed the Vita around 4.87 million sales in its lifetime in Japan.

The popular Japanese Role Playing Game has also sold a total of 374,000 copies across all three major platforms of Sony, and the PS4 version is leading it. It seems the game is a major hit in the country right now and a lot like to play it on the PS4. The recent shooter game, "Overwatch," has also sold a lot, which has already sold 58,000 copies on the PS4 platform in its first week only.

Since Sony Entertainment's handheld system's launch in 2012, it has finally hit its milestone after many years in the market. According to Segment Next, this new update is interesting since the game company said in a statement two months ago that sales were going down, and it would not be profitable for them anymore. After that, they announced that they will be ceasing the production of the handheld system soon, but with this new development, they might retract that statement.

The handheld system is still the best selling current generation console, which was a bit ahead of the PS4. Its sales are even better than the Wii U, which is currently struggling in Japan with only 3.17 million units sold.

The PS Vita was the second handheld that Sony released after its predecessor, the PlayStation Portable, which is one of the most successful handheld in gaming history, and has sold more than 20 million in Japan alone. The successor has sold a lot, but compared to its predecessor, it still has a long way to go. It might not be cancelled anytime soon, due to its current sales and it will have a third party support in the future.
