The long-running TV medical drama series "Grey's Anatomy" is now on its Season 13, and here are some spoilers that fans may be anxious to know - the continually tensed relationship between Alex and Jo.

Just like in any other real-life relationships, the respective Jo and Alex characters of Camilla Luddington and Justin Chambers are caught in a relationship cliff, primarily because of the issue of hiding the truth. According to Variety, in "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13, Jo continues to hide the real reason of her rejection to Alex's proposal, despite of the latter's several sincere attempts. It is not because Jo does not love Alex but because of the fact that she is married to somebody else.

In a bar scene, she drunkenly revealed to her friends that her marriage was just for the purpose of keeping her secret identity. Alex does not even know her real name. Jo was married to an abusive husband and she had to flee. She does not want to divorce him because it would mean confronting him.

Andrew (Giacomo Gianniotti) was very sympathetic about Jo's situation and he helped her to go home safely after the bar, but Alex saw them together and thought that they were romantically involved. In a fit of jealousy, Alex punched Andrew.

The scene where Jo again rejected the marriage proposal of Alex was indeed heartbreaking for fans but it was necessary to make the story move forward. Fans were hooked by the hesitation of Jo with some implications that there was something in her past that is preventing her to marry Alex.

Ludington was interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about the heart-wrenching scene, wherein she said "Relationships like that are really, really complicated. It's not about necessarily being a strong woman or not being a strong woman, it's about someone being a master manipulator within that relationship."

She added that her character may feel powerless about the situation when she was with Alex. She said that the character was likely to be terrified.

"Grey's Anatomy" Season 13 will air this fall on ABC.
