Google has completed collecting submissions for the official Android N names, and the search engine giant is set to make an announcement in a few weeks. Fans should get ready to receive information on what the latest OS will be called sometime this June or July.

There are possibilities that the Operating System will be called Nutella, nectar, nougat, or Norwegian smoked salmon. For fans that missed out, probably the Mountain view firm will allow people to decide the name again with Android 8.0, although everything is dependent on this year's result. For now, it is too late to submit a new entry since developers are already "poring over the submissions," according to Android official website.

As expected, Google unveiled the big news via Google+ official website, and at the same time confirmed the development on Twitter. The announcement came with a video that explains how fans can come up with an interesting name.

The search engine commenced the naming campaign during the 2016 I/O conference that happened in Google's hometown. However, way before the submission campaign, the company had begun accepting suggestions and opened online polls to find the best moniker. That is possibly because it is difficult to imagine a good name that starts with the letter N.

As a reminder, Google internally refers to the latest Operating System as New York Cheesecake. Therefore, chances are that the company would settle for that.

Android versions have undergone a long journey since the release of the first Android Donut. The OS has ever been named Android Eclair, Android Froyo, Android Gingerbread, Android Honeycomb, Android Ice Cream Sandwich, Android Jelly Bean, Android KitKat, Android lollipop, and finally the current Android Marshmallow.

Google I/O started on May 18 and one of the things that came out is related to the performance of Android N. The company has improved on the runtime and graphics.

During the event, Google revealed that it is working on its own chipset - Tensor Processing Unit. This chipset will serve to power The Big G's Assistant Al platform. Stay tuned for more updates on Android N as soon as they trickle in.
