Apple Inc.'s Worldwide developers Conference (WWDC) is set to start on June 13, Monday but Siri reportedly referred to OS X on iPhones, which suggests Macs will be getting the personal assistant. Asking the digital assistant to open settings in the window and starting the question with the word "Siri" refers to an enigmatic app called "Finder." Apple's voice command system also seems to hint at a "dark mode" by replying that it is unable to change the setting.
There is no iOS app named Finder so it seems to refer to an OS X file manager application. Brian Roemmele first spotted the app and believes Apple servers are being changed to move Siri's functionality to Mac computers, according to Mac Rumors.
Siri also seems to be referencing another new OS X feature that does not yet exist on iOS. If iPhone users ask Siri to turn on "dark mode" the digital assistant explains that it is unable to modify the setting.
The response is surprising because iOS does not refer to a dark mode feature, according to AppleInsider. Siri usually responds that it does not understand a question when asked to change an unsupported future. In addition, when Siri cannot customize a current user option it tells the user it is unable to do the task and says it is sorry.
iOS does not support a dark mode but iOS 9 had Night Shift. Meanwhile, Mac users have been able to access a special setting that modifies the menu bar as well as the application dock from light gray to black. The dark graphics were released with OS X 10.10 Yosemite a few years ago.
Apple is also preparing to launch a Siri software development kit (SDK) that will allow users of Apple devices to access the digital assistant through developers' apps.
WWDC 2016 is set to start at 10:00 a.m. Pacific Time. The California-based company will reportedly showcase the latest versions of several operating systems including OS X, iOS, watchOS and tvOS. Apple fans can watch a live stream of WWDC's keynote event through its website and an Apple TV app.
The tech giant is expected to announce future plans for iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, MacBook, and Apple TV.
