Microsoft has laid out its largest plan to make Minecraft truly a cross-platform game by allowing players from the PlayStation, Xbox, PC and mobile to play on just one world regardless of their platform.

Players of all platforms will be able to invite their friends to see their latest creation on Minecraft without having to just send a screenshot. They will be capable of experiencing the latest minecart coaster or exploring a large castle that a friend made even if they do not have the same consoles.

Mojang has been widely successful with the sandbox adventure indie game. The franchise become such a big hit that Microsoft bought it for several billion dollars.

Now, the Redmond-based company has announced their plan to make Minecraft a cross-platform game. Xbox chief Phil Spencer said that they are already planning on how to make players of different platforms cross paths in Minecraft, Mashable has learned.

There is still a rift between console and PC gamers who often argue which is the best. Even though the cross platform experience would most likely spark new arguments, it would be a welcome addition in one of the world's most successful video games.

One step forward from Microsoft is the new "friendly update" for Minecraft that now allows players from Android, iOS and Windows 10 to play together, TechCrunch reported. They will be able to play through Minecraft Realms which is a private server with an invite-only process.

Spencer said: "Realms is next year for console, it's not this year. So it's not front and center. But absolutely, we're going to have to have the conversations with both Nintendo and Sony about what it means to keep the Minecraft community connected together, and I want to go do that."

Another thing that Spencer wants is to make Minecraft customers feel like "first-class citizens." He believes that one way of doing that is to allow them to play with other platforms as well.

Microsoft will still need to clear up the details of their Minecraft cross-platform plan. The new update is expected to roll out for the Xbox One later this year.
