Head of Microsoft's Xbox division Phil Spencer recently spoke to Giant Bomb, as reported by Game Spot. During the livestream, Spencer revealed the reason why the company decided to unveil two types of consoles on the same event - a move that Microsoft has never done before.

According to Spencer, the decision came about because they wanted to provide consumers more options to improve their gaming. He explains that the company wanted their gamers to be privy to pertinent information about their future purchases. They wanted to be honest about what is next for Microsoft.

"The reason we announced when we did--one is I wanted to give customers a view into what we were doing. If they say I have an Xbox One now, I'm thinking about an Xbox One S, I want to be as transparent as I can be so they know they're buying with as much information as I can give them. I can't always give them all the information, but I want to give them this information," explained by Spencer in his recent interview.

Since then, details about the upcoming Xbox Scorpio have made their way online. According to Alphr, the upcoming console would be a force to be reckoned with. Speculations surrounding the Xbox Scorpio have remained unconfirmed. Nevertheless, Alphr claims that the soon to be released console would be powered by AMD's latest chip - the AMD Vega chip - and Xbox Scorpio is likely to be equipped with a whopping 12GB GDDR5 of RAM.

Moreover, the same report reveals that the Xbox Scorpio would be released by 2017. The year long delay is in part due to the conscious effort of Microsoft to give the Xbox One S leeway to sell more units. The exact date for the release has yet to be confirmed. Likewise, Microsoft has yet to announce how much the Xbox Scorpio would be selling for.
