Speculations are rife that the much-delayed book "Winds of Winter" release may happen by the year end. Author George R. R. Martin is said to be working on the last chapter of the book.
Martin is trying to finish the book "Winds of Winter" as soon as possible as it has been delayed for more than three years. "Winds of Winter" is a part of the book series known as "A Song of Ice and Fire." It is the sixth book in this series.
The first book in the "A Song of Ice and Fire" series was titled as "A Game of Thrones," which is also the name of the TV adaptation. It was released in 1996 and two years later, was followed by "A Clash of Kings."
The third book "A Storm of Swords" was released in 2000, which was followed by the fourth book "A Feast for Crows" five years later. The fifth book "A Dance with Dragons" was also delayed and managed to release in 2011 after a long wait of six years.
Martin was invited to the 50th birthday celebrations of the city of Baltimore recently. He returned from the trip with a chest congestion according to a post on his journal Not a Blog. Due to his illness, there were rumors that the book may be delayed further but the author recovered fast enough to get back to the task at hand.
The author seems to be very possessive about his work and his acclaimed book series. He has been pressured numerous times over the delays to hire a co-author so that he can finish up the series fast but he feels that a co-author will not be able to do justice to his world of Westeros and White Walkers so he is the best person to wrap up the series himself.
Meanwhile, the TV adaptation of the series "Game of Thrones" Season 6 is currently airing, which is following a different plot-line than the books. Earlier this year, Martin apologized to the fans in another journal entry on Not a Blog that he is sad that the book did not release before the series premiere and he is trying his best to finish up the book.
