Fans of the immensely popular anime series, "Highschool of the Dead," are set to be dealt with to yet another chapter in the life of a group of high school students caught in the middle of a zombie apocalypse, as the anime's second season has reportedly already been greenlit.

Rumors continue to swirl about the much-awaited second season of the Japanese zombie-gore manga series, originally written by Daisuke Satō and illustrated by Shoji Satō. One of which is that the US-based Anime Network is reportedly planning to produce the anime's second season since the Japanese authorities are reportedly apprehensive about adopting any storylines in light of the zombie apocalypse.

Speculations are rife that the "Highschool of the Dead" Season 2 will finally see the light sooner or later this year. Earlier reports further claimed that the anime's new season is in the works, although there is no definite announcement nor release date confirmed from its makers.

Hence, some disappointed fans speculated that the anime may have been cancelled considering that it has nearly been six years since "High School of the Dead" Season 1 was aired and as years pass by, the chances go slimmer and slimmer. However, many are positive that the anime will continue and a new season will be out soon after a 2-minute long trailer began streaming on the web, Date Release reported.

With that said, fans over at When-Will.net stated that the first season was ended by the 13th additional episode, which offered an indirect hint of a Season 2 possible release, stating, "At the end of the credits on the last additional episode they literally said to be continued."

Nonetheless, Japan's Madhouse Studio is yet to take a call on the return of the anime series, leaving avid fans waiting in agony. The Japanese animation studio, who produced and covered the first four volumes of its manga counterpart, have neither renewed nor cancelled the apocalypse anime series. Hence, reports about the anime's second season should be taken with a grain of salt.

As a quick refresher, "Highschool of the Dead" is set in present-day Japan and takes after a group of high school students - Takashi Komuro, Rei Miyamoto, Kohta Hirano, Shizuka Marikawa and Saya Takagi - who tries to survive the worldwide catastrophic event known as the Outbreak, My Anime List has learned.
