Sony has revealed that they are expecting a shortage in the supply of the PlayStation VR and that the PlayStation NEO is just "another option" for consumers looking for consoles.

One of the largest parts of Sony's E3 2016 presentation is the PlayStation VR. They are going all out in the marketing considering that they are pushing out demos in Best Buy and Gamestop stores but it would seem that they are going unprepared with a shortage of supply.

The Japanese tech giant has already confirmed the existence of the PlayStation NEO but it was not present at their presentation. Their strategy was to get it out of the way so that the media coverage will focus on their present offerings instead of the upgraded PlayStation 4.

Fans have been anticipating the details of the new console. What is known for now is that it will be able to handle PS4 games as well with better framerates and at stunning 4K resolution.

Sony Interactive Entertainment Group CEO and President Andrew House told CNBC that the PlayStation NEO is a great choice for those who recently bought a 4K TV for their home. However, he emphasizes that it is simply an option and not a new cycle for the PlayStation console itself.

Microsoft has also confirmed the Xbox One Project Scorpio which is also an upgraded version of their current console and not the Xbox Two that most were expecting. The Redmond-based company announced their new console after Sony confirmed the PS4 NEO.

The PlayStation VR will cost $399 when it launches in October, WCCFTech has learned. It will be going against the Oculus Rift and the HTC Vive which are both geared for PC gamers.

NVIDIA and AMD has made the VR gaming rigs more affordable than ever with their GTX 1080, GTX 1070 and the $200 Radeon RX 480 video cards. The PSVR will be cheaper considering that they will only need the PlayStation 4 or the PS NEO itself plus the headset instead of having to build a rig.

Fans will be able to buy the PlayStation VR on October if the supply is fine. The PlayStation NEO has no release date yet but Sony has confirmed its existence and it could be unveiled soon.
