It has been confirmed that the actual Nintendo NX release date is set March 2017 but the unveiling will happen in advance, likely by September 2016. The rumored hybrid gaming machine might have skipped this year's E3 edition but in a few months' time many things about the device will begin take a solid shape, reports said.

The September 2016 intro for the NX makes sense, according to Gotta Be Mobile, as Nintendo is supposed hold off on the official announcement to first wait out on the confirmed game titles that will support the gaming device. Apart from the in-house or classic Nintendo games, the game maker is making sure that Bandai Namco, Capcom and Square Enix will push through with the plan to bring their popular titles on the NX platform.

So if indeed there will be a Nintendo NX cloaking this coming September it will be a big one, the GBM report said.

In line with Nintendo's intention to stuff the NX release with compelling games to play, the same report claimed that only a Zelda title is lined up for the console. Part of the package is the widely popular Super Smash Bros although it remains unclear if the game version to be included will be the current or a fresh build designed exclusively for the NX.

GBM added on its report that eventually the NX will kill the Wii U and even the 3DS handheld, owing to its hybrid functionalities. This belie an earlier statement by Nintendo that the gaming machine will not replace its existing gaming device line but the company allowed that the NX in fact is a fresh concept in the making.

Meanwhile, IGN said in a new report that the NX will unbox with playable media, possibly in cartridge format though optical discs are not yet totally ruled out. However, the former seems more favored as "cartridges are much simpler to refurbish and repackage. So there is somewhat a little bit of an advantage if it went in that direction," the report said.

The latest news doused cold water on the speculations that the Nintendo NX on release date will be exclusively designed for playing downloadable games.
