After glimpses of her was seen in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 finale, Nina Dobrev is about to make a comeback in the upcoming 8th season. Question is, is she coming back as Katherine, or Elena?
In the latest season finale, Damon heard Elena's voice calling out to him as he got trapped in a vault by an evil monster. This got fans on their toes wondering if Nina is finally coming back as Elena in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, despite bidding goodbye to the role a few years back.
According to the Christian Times, the reason why Damon got lured into the vault was because he heard Elena's voice. Dobrev personally came into the studio to do automated dialogue replacement (ADR) and record the material. In an interview with TVline, the show's executive producer Julie Plec revealed this trivia, along with the surprise that Dobrev will indeed be part of the series cast.
Plec did not specify how and when exactly the actress will make her comeback, but did mention that she will definitely be seen onscreen again. Viewer's ratings have apparently gone down since Dobrev's exit from the show, according to the Movie News Guide. This suggests that Dobrev was indeed essential in making the show a big hit, and may provide some explanation as to why the TV series decided to sign her back to "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.
This has elicited mixed emotions and opinions amongst "TVD" fans. Some say she may return as doppleganger Katherine, or as Elena for a much awaited "Delena" reunion. While some fans are delighted to hear of Dobrev's return, whatever role she may play in "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8, some say that if she is to return as Elena, they may not be pleased as her chemistry with Damon is "dull" and the said character is "better off without his girlfriend." Some fans theorize that Elena may wake up due to Bonnie sacrificing her life for Damon, which may explain the actress's return to "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.
Fans have to hold their breaths for a little longer as they wait for "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8's premiere. They can catch the newest season on Oct. 21 at 8pm only on CW.
