It was just a month ago when the hit mockumentary sitcom, "Modern Family," finished its seventh season. With "Modern Family" Season 8 already ordered in March, recent reports are claiming that the eight installment may be the final outing for the sitcom.
During an interview with Deadline, the co-creator of the series, Christopher Lloyd, said that they are now finding it difficult to develop interesting storylines; however, he added that even if that is the case, they can still find a way to produce quality plots.
Lloyd emphasized though that they are pressured in keeping "Modern Family" funny or entertaining. Despite of that, the other co-creator of the sitcom, Steve Levitan, said that he wants "Modern Family" to lasts for up to "Modern Family" Season 10. Levitan clarified that his ten-season plan is only tentative, and if the show needs to end before the tenth installment, then they would do it.
On the other hand, according to Christian Today, the upcoming "Modern Family" Season 8 could indeed be the final installment of the series. The report cited that most of the children in the show have grown up. A good example would be the actress Ariel Winter, who plays the role of Alex Dunphy in the sitcom.
Reports say that Winter recently graduated from high school and is now aiming to study Law in UCLA. With that said, speculations are pointing to a possibility that the "Modern Family" Season 8 may be the end of "Modern Family," while other rumors are loud that the show will not end, rather "Modern Family" Season 8 will now focus on young-adult storylines.
It can be remembered that it was way back in 2009 when the first episode of the "Modern Family" aired on the ABC network, and the sitcom immediately captured the interest of the viewers with its mockumentary approach. "Modern Family" also received applause from the critics because of its representation of the various forms of families including same sex, nuclear, and step.
As of the moment, the release date of "Modern Family" Season 8 is not yet confirmed, but reports suggest that a September 2016 release date for the show is possible.
