It can be recalled that the finale episode of "The Originals" Season 3 showed how the prophecy came to reality, involving the Mikaelsons defeat from the hands of Marcel (played by Charles Michael Davis). Although the family lost their battle, it was said that the Mikaelsons would recover from it in "The Originals" Season 4, knowing that Klaus has kept all the members of the family alive.

During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the show's executive producer, Michael Narducci, hinted that Klaus may return to his evil self that was shown during the pilot season of "The Originals". The showrunner cited that Klaus' sacrifice in order to save his family led him to an intolerable pain that could last in a long period of time. This pain could deliver Klaus to his former self, which is a monstrous vampire.

On the other hand, according to Game N Guide, "The Originals" Season 4 is going to feature Vincent (played by Yusuf Gatewood) as the latest hero of the series. Rumors are loud that Vincent would kill Marcel in "The Originals" Season 4 in order to protect the witches in the city, and to serve as a retribution for the Mikaelsons.

The report also noted the speculations of a possible appearance of Elena (played by Nina Dobrev), Stefan (played by Paul Wesley) and Damon (played by Ian Somerhalder) in "The Originals" Season 4. This news came after Narducci said on an interview that the fourth installment of the spinoff series would feature a time jump. However, according to the same publication, this will aslo unlikely to happen since Dobrev, Somerhalder and Wesley are said to be currently tied up in filming "The Vampire Diaries" Season 8.

As of the moment, the release date of "The Originals" Season 4 has been moved to January 2017.
